Rhonda Anderson R PLACE

We're enjoying a great Wednesday! We've been working on the letter Jj. We made a J THINGS collection that we keep adding to. I like the fact that the kids can use several senses to explore the items. I think they will remember the concept of J and its sound better than the old way I taught letters (with pictures). We still do worksheets with our letters, too. Our project today was a giant jelly bean jar, filled with nice, big construction paper jelly beans, making the gluing process easier for t… Continue

Brittany Lawler Company Daycare...

I never thought of myself as a parent- mostly because I am torn between my own goals and wanting to be there for my family. I've still got plenty of time to think about this but it accrued to me today that many parents are torn between the very same things. That's why most companies are creating new programs for working parents— quality daycare centers can be more than just convenient they can benefit the entire family, but they also elevate a lot of pressure parents feel when balancing work and… Continue

Brittany Lawler I didn't know...

I didn't know how much work went into developing and providing daycare facilities. All you hear in the news- are the neglectful or well under par places. Bad reviews come from every angle— unsatisfied parents, government officials and of course "scandals" the media publishes, but for every bad review there are at least 20 unread good reviews. The more I learn of all the work that goes into childcare, the more respect I have for the people providing the good ones. Continue

Nora Parkman Back to School

We started off the school year with a tie dye party. I only do teacher's kids so this was also a way for the parents to come with their kids and get the kids comfy again before the start of the school year. This was a BLAST. In fact it was so great I plan on doing a similar thing at Christmas. We have been doing "We're A Team" as our theme and it's done great to unify the kids. I really love this group, they are all so well behaved and honestly very good. The only snag in the plan is the toddle… Continue

gayle hangren anderson Media Bad talk or positive talking daycare providers

Have you every wondered why is it that the Media never has anything nice to say about daycare providers? Or the long hours we have to work taking care of children? We take care of children from all walks of life. Think of it... There's the child whom the parents say is a cuddler, which we all know the parents hold he/she so they don't cry so much, and expect us to do the same. Then there are the attention getters, the manipulators. Okay, I could go on and on but I won't because you know what I a… Continue

Nora Parkman the cutest phone call ever!

The phone rang tonight, it was a tiny little voice. phone - "Who is this?" me - "who are you trying to call?" (I have 2 young kids, so it may have been for them.) phone - "Miss Nora, is that you?" It was J, the boy who had been here for 5 1/2 yrs and is going to kindergarten in the fall. His mom didn't know he called me, he had memorized my phone number! He just wanted to let me know that they accidentally had a toy of mine at his house, and to see how I was and tell me he loved me. It was s… Continue

Nora Parkman Is Summer over even though it just started?

This is my first official week of being closed and I already feel like there won't be enough time to accomplish everything. I have no daycare kids for the summer (see previous blog entry) but so many projects. The house is a disaster as we put it in order. Why is it that you have to make a mess to clean? Continue

Nora Parkman counting down to summer

This is the first school year that I am on a teacher's schedule - when the teachers are off I am off. So, I am having end of the year issues - I want the year to be over, the kids want it to be over. I am bored with the themes, I just want to spend the day letting the kids play outside in the nice weather. This week we did sports as the theme. Tomorrow we will only have 3 kids here instead of 6, and 2 of those are leaving at noon. So, I'm hopping over to the grade school during nap time while m… Continue

Kylia | Editor Is TV Part of Your Daycare Daily Curriculum?

I am always asked this question, and I always ask when I have someone care for my child. I think TV is great when used as an educational tool, and with adult supervision. When it comes to my toddler I want to know (at all times) what is absorbing from the television. If TV is on your a… Continue
