The Childcare and Daycare Centers Network

I am always asked this question, and I always ask when I have someone care for my child. I think TV is great when used as an educational tool, and with adult supervision. When it comes to my toddler I want to know (at all times) what is absorbing from the television.

If TV is on your agenda my favorite toddler/ preschool network is Noggin. First off there are no commercial trying to sell your kid on all the new toys that are out. As for quality programs I think they have a great selection. The "host" of the network is the cutest little moose; named "Moos A Moose". He provides educational entertainment between shows. My son loves the moose! There are a few shows that we watch together that he really enjoys.

So what are you TV rules at your daycare center?

For more information about noggin you can go to the Noggin website

Yes we do watch TV. Everyday (up until last Friday) we watch Arthur and word girl on PBS. But now that I didn't upgrade my TV for digital we will only watch movies. Instead of movies everyday though I like to give each child one on one time with Preschool games on the computer they teach colors, shapes, alphabet and phonics so well!!! I pick this over TV any day. Oh another shw I simply love is between the lions!!!

I am a home child care provider. The television is not a vital role in the day care. It is located in the kitchen and not in the children's play areas. It is typically on in the morning between breakfast and morning snack, if the children would like to watch. Noggin, PBS Kids, Nick Jr, (educational shows) is what is typically permitted. I also use the television to help distract children sometimes if I am preparing lunch, but this is also done in conjunction with table toys and puzzles. Television is never the only choice and children are not forced to watch. When we do watch movies that the children bring in my only request is that they at least are G and for those that are rated PG I normally would like to preview. That dosen't always happen, but I keep oncommunication about children T.V. watching habits at home so that I won't offend any families. Also I would like to add being that home child care has flexible schedules and sometimes I may have one child waiting to get picked up, sometimes that child watches Noggin or On Demand (Cable of fav. kid shows) until picked up.
