The Childcare and Daycare Centers Network

We're enjoying a great Wednesday! We've been working on the letter Jj. We made a J THINGS collection that we keep adding to. I like the fact that the kids can use several senses to explore the items. I think they will remember the concept of J and its sound better than the old way I taught letters (with pictures). We still do worksheets with our letters, too. Our project today was a giant jelly bean jar, filled with nice, big construction paper jelly beans, making the gluing process easier for the kids. We always post our pictures on the front door with magnets...a feast for the eyes!

We waited out the rain until after 11am and all dashed out into the leafy, soggy, but sunny play yard. Our newly carved jack o' lantern is standing proudly on its table perch. The roasted pumpkin seeds we made from it were fabulous!

As usual, we worked on our calendar pattern; alternating red and green smiley stickers adorning it. We are now counting the days until Halloween, instead of the days of the month that have passed. We still name the day and talk about its date. Our Halloween party will be on Friday, complete with face painting and balloon twisting! The kids will be so cute in their costumes!

We googled lots of really cute educational songs during computer time. We even found songs sung by children from other countries. Several of my students are now able to choose a topic, have me enter the keywords and find pictures or video clips on their own! Of course, I monitor it.

At snack and at lunch times we identified shapes around us, asked for things by color or amount, and counted our cups, kids, food, or plates.

We read a cute story about a little class pet named Max, called WHERE'S MAX? The whole thing is about opposites, another skill we've been working on.

The afternoon is usually low key, allowing the kids to choose some of their favorite things to do and allowing me to help the after-schoolers with any homework questions they may have. Time for a few nap time chores! Until next time.....
